Edward Budda Baker age 65 of 3700 US
Hwy 17-92 N, Davenport, FL received his final orders from the Supreme Commander
on November 11, 2000. He served on the USS POMFRET SS-391 and USS ROCK
SS-274. Survivors include one son James of New Jersey and one daughter
of N. Hollywood, CA.

Shipmate William C. 'Bill' Booth passed
away September 3, 2000. Bill died at the age of 54 of small cell lung cancer.
He is survived by his wife Carol and sons Eric and Edward, daughter Rosy
and daughter-in-law Christine. Bill qualified on the USS CARP in 1966.
After his discharge from the Navy he worked on the LIRR as a merchant welder.
Bill was an active member of Long Island Base and recently attended a boat
reunion of USS CARP.

Shipmate Arthur J. Brown of Poughkeepsie,
PA passed away on January 29, 2000. Mr. Brown was the owner and operator
of Arthur J. Brown Sons, Poughkeepsie since 1977. A member of the U.S.
Chamber of Commerce, Southern Dutchess Chamber of Commarec, Poughkeepsie
chamber of commerce, Town of Poughkeepsie Republican committee, American
Legion Post #1466 and the US Submarine Veterans. Mr. Brown served in the
U.S. Navy from 1964-1968 and was a Machinist Mate 2/c. Survivors include
his wife Betsey, a daughter, Tina Brown Krause and son Arthur J. Brown.

PA.

Richard L. Dietz, Sr, 64, Life member
#0378 of USSVI, died May 10, 2000 at St. Lucie Medical Center, Port St.
Lucie, FL. He retired from the U.S. Navy in1975, as a Master Chief Petty
Officer , with 22 years of service. He served aboard USS SEADRAGON, USS
SWORDFISH, USS VALLEJO, USS QUEENFISH and the USS MENDEL RIVERS. Following
his military service, he was employed as Assistant Professor at the Center
for Nuclear Studies at Memphis State University. Subsequent to that, he
was employed by Florida Power and Light Co. He is survived by his wife
of 40 years Shirley Dietz, a son, Richard L. Dietz, Jr. of High Point,
NC, a daughter, Jane Stafford of Port St. Lucie and five grandchildren.
Interment was at Arlington National Cemetery.

Shipmate William E. Drury received
his Final orders from the Supreme Commander in mid April 2000. He is survived
by his wife Cosse Drury, 410 SW 19th Street, Ft Lauderdale, Fl. William
served aboard the USS REQUIN SS-481, USS PICKREL SS-524, USS ARGONAUT SS-475
and the USS RUNNER SS-476. He will be missed by his many friends.

Canyon Creek Drive, LaVerne, CA received his final orders from the Supreme
Commander on October 1, 2000 after a long battle with cancer.

Associate member Joseph Flatley of
84 Meade Street, Hempstead, NY received his Final Orders from the supreme
Commander on 17 May 2000. He is survived by one daughter Kethleen and one
son Kevin, MS2(SS) who is presently deployed onboard the USS DALLAS SSN-700.

Shipmate Richard J. HaackJr (Red) departed
on his Final Patrol on Monday 18 December 2000 after a bout with cancer.
Red was a Holland Club member, a National Life member of USSVI #2416 and
a San Diego Base Life Member. --- He is survived by his wife Jane, 4942

Shipmate Robert J. Hagerman, Manchester,
MI received his final orders from the Supreme Commander on January 24,
2000. Robert is survived by his wife Kathleen, one daughter Andrea Todd
Rickelman of Manchester, sons James Hagerman , Chelsea, William Hagerman.
He retired in 1996 from Edwards Printing after 40 years of service. Internment
was in St. Mary's Cemetery, Manchester. Memorials may be made to the Robert

St., San Diego, CA passed away Jan. 2, 2000. He is survived by his wife
Margie. He qualified on S-33/SS-138 in 1940. He also served on USS CARP
SS-338 and SABALO SS-302.

Shipmate Harold E. 'Bud' Hyatt passed
away on Saturday September 16, 2000 following surgery. Bud was a member
of the Topeka-Jefferson City Base. He served in the submarine force from
1947 to 1951. He served on the USS SEGUNDO SS-398, USS REMORA SS-487 and
USS STICKLEBACK SS-415. He was very proud of his submarine service and
of those he served with. God bless you Bud, and thanks for your service.

Shipmate John B. Jackson of 10 Tyler
Drive, Preston, Ct received his final orders from the supreme Commander
on 20 December 2000. John qualified aboard the USS TRIGGER SS-237, and
also sered on USS SIRAGO SS-485, USS CUTTLEFISH SS-171, USS ORION AS18,
USS DIABLO SS-479, USS ALBACORE SSG-569 and USS BLENNY SS-324. He received
the Presidential Unit Citation, WWII Victory medal, Asiatic-Pacific service
medal and the Navy Unit Citation. --- John is survived by five daughters,
two sons, sixteen grandchildren, and seven great-grand children. John was
a life member of the VFW in Jewett City, and the Fleet Reserve. He was
inducted into the Holland Club in November 1999 and was a life member of
the Groton Base.

Malone Jones, L-2995 of 28 Meadow Drive,
Waterford, CT received his final orders from the Supreme Commander on November
23, 2000. He is survvived by his wife Mary. Malone served on the USS DACE,
USS STURGEON, USS ORION, USS ATULE, USS PROTEUS, USS AMBERJACK, AND USS
SABLEFISH. He qualified on the USS DACE SS-247.

Our Shipmate and friend, Associate
member of Peoria Base, William 'Bill' Kendall, BMC (Ret) passed away on
4 July 2000. Bill was retired after 39 years of military (Navy). Bill was
a member who loved submarines although never having served aboard one,
he had been associated with them. Bill is survived by his wife, Mrs. Pauline
Kendall, 1024 N. Tower Drive, Peoria, IL. Bill is appreciated for his membership
and also of his dedication to our organization.

Shipmate Robert Kittelson , Alta Vista,
Iowa received his Final Orders from the supreme Commander on May 6, 2000.
Robert was a life member of USSVI, the VFW and TREE. He retired as ENCN(SS)
after thirty years and had served aboard the USS BARRACUDA and the USS
AMERICA. He is survived by one brother William, two sisters, Doris Murre
and Mary Anne Tolliver and seven children. Robert was preceded in death
by his brother Larry, a former submariner, who was also a life member of
USSVI.

on November 6, 2000, He is survived by his wife Priscilla of 208 Woods
Avenue, Fullerton, CA. William served aboard the USS CARBANERO SS-337 and
USS BLACKFIN SS-322 as a MoMM/2c(SS).

R. Barry Miller passed away at his
home in Gainsville, VA on Jan. 23, 2000. Barry is survived by his wife
Sharon, son Jeffrey Miller (MM2) of Norfolk, Va., daughter Christina Miller
(RN) of Gainsville. Burial took place with full military honors at Quantico,
VA. Barry (known as Russell by some) retired from the U.S. Navy as a Master
Chief Sonarman and served on the Requin, the Permit and the Tusk and many
instructor duties at Bainbridge, Nuclear School, Washington D.C. and SubSchool/Groton.
He was very involved with Gainsville community activities and was a Civil
War historian. He will be missed by all who knew him and we wish him well
on his final patrol.

Our Shipmate Joseph W. Mullen, age
78 was called to his final patrol on 13 January 2000 after a long illness.
He is survived by his wife Mildred, daughter Marie of Pennsylvania and
a brother Walter of Hackensack, NJ. Joe was one of the original members
of USSVI and Long Island Base. A small ceremony was officiated by members
of LI Base on 15 January 2000 in Joe's honor.

RADM USN(Ret) Charles Derick Nace of
Cape Henry Shores died February 4, 2000 in a Virginia Beach Hospital. He
served during World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War and retired
in 1972 after 36 years of service. He served as the second senior member
of the Court of Inquiry Investigating the loss of the nuclear submarine
USS SCORPION. He made eight submarine patrols in the Western Pacific during
World War II, the last two as Commanding Officer of the USS RASHER SS-269.

Shipmate Ollie Merle O'nan (Life member
1788) of 6228 Iris Way, Arvada, CO passed away on 13 December 2000 from
a heart attack. He is survived by his wife Vera O'nan, son Dan, a former
submariner, and Mike who is a LCDR on active duty with the USN. Ollie was
a plankowner on the USS SPRINGER SS-414, USS CAVALLA SS-244 (Japanese surrender
certificate) and USS DOGFISH SS-350,

the supreme commander on December 19, 2000. He served aboard the USS SANDLANCE

Shipmate David Carl Rimbey, 45 Wayne
Road, Groton, CT received his final orders from the Supreme Commander on
February 9, 2000. David is survived by his wife Patricia, three sons: Stephen
Rimbey , Virginia Beach; Scott Wheeler, Washington, DC and Michael Wheeler
of Waverly, his daughter Beth Jones and one sister Judith Rimbey Waverly
and nine grandchildren. David served in the US Navy for 20 years. He was
a veteran of the Vietnam War and retired as a Master Chief Fire Control
Technician. David served aboard the USS SUNFISH SSN-649, USS THOMAS EDISON
SSN-610, USS JACK SSN-605 and at the Submarine School, Groton.

Shipmate Edward Seader Jr, TMC(SS)
USN(Ret) a member of Chesapeake Base received his final orders from the
Supreme commander August 10, 2000. Edward qualified aboard the USS Darter
in 1955. He served in the Navy for 22 years and also served aboard the
USS Barb, USS GATO, USS HARDER, USS TROUT, USS SAM HOUSTON, and retired
as the COB on the USS VON STUEBEN.
He is survived by his son, Francis

Shipmate Elmer Shemanske, 4422 Washington
Road, Kenosha, WI received his final orders from the Supreme commander
on February 7, 2000 after a losing battle with cancer. He is survived by
his wife June, two daughters, Judy Lynn Millhouse, and Susan Marie Shemanske
and one brother Thomas and one grandson. Elmer served two tours in the
U.S. Navy, the first during World War II and the second during the Korean
War. He was a member of St. Mary's Lutheran Church, Kenosha and a member
of Kenosha Masonic Lodge 47 F&AN, Pike Masonic Lodge 355 F&AM,
Southport Masonic Lodge 343 F&AM, a member of USSVI and the American
Legion Post 552.
He was a shipmate and a true friend.

Leonard Singel passed away June or
July of 2000. His wife, preceded him in death. He was a Life Member of
the Tri-State Base, USSVI. He qualified in USS SIRAGO SS-485 in Oct. 1951.
He also served in USS ICEFISH SS-367, RAY SS-269 and REDFIN SS-272.

Shipmate Donald A. Smith of Slidell,
LA, a life member of USSVI and a member of Redfish Base. (Born June 3,
1932 Died February 6, 2000) Don died in a house fire from apparent
smoke inhalation. Redfish Base was asked to conduct the funeral service
for him. Don served aboard the USS TENCH SS-417 and qualified in 1951.

Scott Street, Geneva, Fl passed away and was buried on January 13, 2000.
Jack served aboard the USS TILEFISH SS-307, USS CLAMAGORE SS-343, USS QUILLBACK
SS-424 and the USS SEACAT SS-399. He served as an ETCS. He is survived
by his wife France Snyder.

Base received his final orders from the Supreme Commander on September
13, 2000 from cancer. Herb was a a Naval Academy Graduate. He qualified
on the USS MEDREGAL SS-480, and also served on the USS GROWLER SSG-577,
USS JOHN ADAMS SSBN-620, USS SEA LEOPARD SS-483 and was CO of the USS CUTLASS
SS-478.

151 Ocean Road #2, Narragansett, RI was called to his final reward on August
8, 2000. He is survived by his wife Dorothy. ---- Earl qualified on the

Our Shipmate Elbert E. Wheat passed
away at the home of his son in ME in December 2000. Mr. Wheat was a retired
LCDR who qualified on USS CORPORAL SS-346 in 1946. He joined USSVI in 1994
and was inducted into the Holland club in 1999.

Thiells, NY 10984 received his final orders from the supreme Commander
on 2 January 2000 after a courageous battle with cancer. He is survived
by his wife Henriette and one son Steven. David served aboard the USS SEA
FOX SS-402, USS ENTEMADOR SS-340 and USS BALAO SS-285 and was discharged
as CSR3 on 7/26/54.
