away on June 24, 1998. He is survived by his wife Ms. Pat Bryan, 7325 Laura
St. San Diego, CA. Surviving children - Cheryl, Scott and Christian. Eugene

Bremerton Base sadly reports the passing
of Shipmate Larry Berg, ETCS(SS). Larry is the brother of Base Commander
Bud Berg. His only survivors are his mother PO Box 1035, Seabeck, WA 98380
and myself (brother) same address. He qualified on USS Alexander Hamilton
SSBN-617. After serving 12 years in the Navy he joined the Coast Guard
and retired from CG. He lived here in Seabeck. Anything concerning him
should be sent to my address (above). Memorial services will be Monday
7-27-98 1300 at Evergreen Lutheran Church. Larry joined the staff of the
Supreme Cdr. 7-18-98, from complications of surgery and massive heart attack.

Joe Brackney, 5333 Wooten Drive, Ft
Worth, TX died in May of complications of diabetes on 23 May 1998. He served in the Navy
from 1952 to 1972. Qualified on USS Gudgeon SS-567 and also rode the USS
Skate SSN-578 and Henry Clay SSBN-625. Joe was survived by his wife Judy, who passed away 20 October 1999 and his son Scott.

Base passed away on May 27, 1998. Carlson qualified on USS Seawolf SS-197.
He retired as MMC after 20 years of duty. Carlson was also a member of

Shipmate John G. Goberville, 74 , Marshfield,
WI passed away on June 24, 1998. He is survived by his wife Gail and three
sons, Brad, Samuel and Gary, two daughters Loy Lyn and Susan and numerous
grandchildren. He was buried at the Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery
at King, WI. John served aboard the USS Queenfish for five patrols and
was awarded the Submarine Combat Insignia with three gold stars, the Bronze
Star medal, the American Area Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Theater Medal
with three Gold stars and the Presidential Unit Citation. He held the rate
of Radioman 1st class.

George Goetz, 165 Arthur Avenue, Thornwood,
NY 10594, former TM1(SS), received his final orders from the supreme Commander
on April 12, 1998. He made Patrols 2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 aboard USS POMPON SS-267.
He was aboard from 09/05/43 to 09/24/45.

Our shipmate, Felix Green, MAL #1693
of Alport St, Wolcott, NY, went on Eternal Patrol on August 10, 1998 after
a lengthy illness. A life member of United States SubVets Inc and US Subvets,
WWII, he was a Chief Electricians Mate when he left the Navy at the end
of WWII. Felix was aboard the Tambor off Midway when Pearl Harbor was bombed
and made a total of 13 patrols in Tambor and Gato before taking a teaching
assignment at the New London Sub School near the end of the war. He is
survived by his wife Mary, a daughter, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He was very active in his small community of Wolcott, NY and leaves many
dear friends.

Shipmate Walter G. E. Heiden, 705 Riverwiew
Dr, Thiensville, WI passed away on October 16, 1998. Walter is survived
by his wife Jean, and children Richard, Daniel and daughter Cynthia, and
other relatives. He was a former WI State Commander of USSVWWII. He will
be sorely missed by his many friends.

Shipmate Richard 'Dick' Samuel Higham
of New London CT passed away on 12 September 1998. Dick was a life member
of US SUBVETS, Groton Base, and a member of the prestigious Holland Club.
He was also a member of US SUBVETSWWII. Dick was a Gunners Mate, and served
in the relief crews during WWII. Dick, along with Joe Negri, was one of
the original founders of US SUBVETS Inc. He served in the following positions:
Parliamentarian for Groton Base, Former CT. State Commander, US SUBVETS,
Inc. and Past Chairman of the Groton Base Board of Trustees. He is survived
by three sons, Mark R. Higham, Richard C. Higham, Raymond Higham, a step
daughter, Marylyn, and six grand children and four great grandchildren.

Shipmate William Hood, Jr Vice Commander
of Tri-State Base passed away on August 2, 1998. He is survived by his
wife Pauline and several children. He qualified on USS Tench SS-417 Dec.
24, 1954. He also served aboard the Uss Diablo SS-479. He served one tour
of duty, departing as a CS3.

the Bergall SS-320. Frank served his country with honor and distinction.

Edward 'Big Ed' McAteer of Hamburg,
NJ passed away on October 6, 1998. He had fought a long battle with cancer.
Ed was a Navigation Electronics Technician having served aboard the USS
Sailfish, Pompon, Cubera, Triton, Edison, Stimson and Carver, retiring
after 20 years in 1974 as ETCS(SS) and was extremely proud of his time
in service. Ed beamed with pride as his two sons, Robin and Edward II followed
in his footsteps. Ed is survived by his loving wife Rose, three daughters
Donna Van Niewland, Kim and Sallie McAteer Southard and his two sons, Edward
II and Robin, and ten grandchildren.

Harold Donald Smith (Gunner) passed
away on July 11, 1998 after a long illness. Burial is in Leesburg, FL.
He is survived by his wife Claudia. Harold was a life member (MAL) of USSVI
and of USSVWWII. He served aboard the USS Snook for 8 war patrols and was
relieved just prior to Snook's final (fatal) patrol.

John J. Sluski exMM1(SS)DV entered
the Navy in 1962 from his home in Providence, RI. He served at A1W as an
instructor and also aboard the SSBN-626 and 604. He was discharged in 1970
and worked in the water business and became the production manager for
water service in Lakeland, FL. John and wife Nancy cared for foster children.
He was also a member of the black powder gun club and a founding member
of CB and Internet Bases. Ski is survived by his wife Nancy and sons J.
Luke and J. Adam of Lakeland, FL and J. Patrick and J. Jacob who are in
the Navy. J. Jacob is now proudly wearing Ski's dolphins. Ski died on Monay
April 20th, 1998 from heart problems. He was 54 and will be remembered
fondly for his poetry and wit on the net and in person. Ski will have his
final patrol in the North Atlantic and his ashes will so attest.

Norman Ivan Tyger, 1535 New Dam Road,
Sanford, ME. Norman away on September 14, 1998. He is survived by his wife
Doris and children Peter and Roxanna. Norman qualified aboard the USS Tigrone.

Irving E. 'Dutch' Wetmore, Capt, USN,
Ret. Born September 24, 1914, Belding, Mich. Died on July 20, 1998. He
is survived by his daughter Carolyn Wetmore Weiser HMI, USNR, Ret. He was
preceded in death by his wife. Internment is in Bay Pines National Cemetery,
Bay Pines, Florida. Capt Wetmore served aboard the USS Nautilus, SS-168,
S-15, Porpoise, Sailfish, Tusk, and Tarpon, commanding three of these submarines.
He was a long time member of USSVWWII and a charter member of USSVI Nautilus
base. A former enlisted man, he advanced to the rank of Captain. he was
a credit to his country. May he rest in peace.

Shipmate Richard White of Port Townsend,
Washington joined the staff of the Supreme Commander on 3 November 1998.
He is survived by his wife Gerane. Dick qualified on the USS CHIVO SS-341.
He also served on the Cod and Grenadier. He left the submarine service
and joined Gulf Oil as a ships master of various tankers. Dick was active
in the Bremerton Base Subvets. We will miss you Shipmate and friend.

Harry Yost, 711 Sharon Drive, Lady
Lake, FL passed away on July 2, 1998 of heart failure. His wife preceded
him in death and he is survived by two children Mary Ann Yost and Fred
Yost. He was also a member uf USSVWWII. Harry served aboard the USS Queenfish
SS-393 and made 12 war patrols.
