Shipmate John E. Baker (Age 66) life
member #2050 of 8636 SW 108th Street, Ocala, Fl received his final orders
from the Supreme Commander on May 13, 1999 after a long illness. John is
survived by his wife Lee R. Baker and daughters Wende Nelson, Loxahatchee,
Fl, and Rande Bennet, Groton, CT, sons Craig Baker Niantic, CT and Graham
Baker, Groton, CT one nephew and three grandchildren. He was a retired
safety technician for Pfizer chemical,, was a member of New London Elks
6944, Moose Lodge 2356 and Ralph G Green American Legion Post. John was
a founding member of the U. S. Submarine Veterans, Nautilus Base and had
served as Treasurer. John was a Navy veteran of the Korean War serving
as a torpedoman on the USS Runner-SS-476.

Shipmate Jones Bennett was called to
his Final Patrol on July 31, 1999. Jones is survived by his wife Francine
and daughter of 4070 Robert Allen Road, Douglasville, GA. Jones had some
heart problems recently but was confident that he was on the road to recovery.
He qualified on the USS Sailfish, SS-572 served on her from 1960 until
1963 and was discharged as an E-5. He was also a plank owner of the Grayback
Base.

Shipmate Vincent J. Boido Sr, life
member # 2266 of 5940 Jessup Dr, Zephyr Hills, Fl received his orders to
his final patrol from the Supreme Commander June 10, 1999. He is survived
by his wife and one son Vincent J. Boido, Jr, 55960 W Grand River, New
Hudson, MI 481654. Vincent served on the USS Gudgeon, and the USS Tautog.

Shipmate Ralph C. Boyd, life member
#1334 and Holland Club member passed away on 16, 1999 after a long bout
with cancer. He is survived by his wife Yvonne of 433 Sandalwood Drive,
El Cajon, CA.

Shipmate George Valentine Brown (age
92) of 9960 Blossom Valley Road, El Cajon, CA received his final orders
from the Supreme Commander on June 29, 1999 after a long illness. George
is survived by his wife Mrs. Also Brown. George was a Holland Club member,
life member of USSVI and a member of the San Diego Base. He qualified in
submarines in June 1928 aboard the USS 0-10 SS-65 as EM2 and retired as
Chief Warrant Officer and attended most San Diego Base meetings. Val, as
he was known to his many friends, was a great storyteller and many of his
stories were published in the San Diego Base newsletter. He also served
aboard 0-9, SS-65, O-8 SS-113, S-48, SS-159, S-15 SS-120, R-10, SS-87,
S-14 and SS-91.

Shipmate Herbert Brown of 1839 Camino
Verde Lane, Las Vegas, NV was called to his Final Patrol by the Supreme
Commander on August 5, 1999. Herbert was life member 437 of USSVI and a
plank owner of Base 51. Herbert served as MoM2c aboard the USS Queenfish
SS-393. He is survived by his wife Judy and one son Alec. Without his dedication
and help Base 51 would not have come into its own as quickly. He will be
missed by all and was a friend to all.

James Burke, born: 8/31/19 died: 8/3/99
(age 79) 33 Robin Dr., Middle Island, N.Y. 11953. Jim died from cancer
at his home in Middle Island. He was a WWII Submarine Combat Veteran having
7 war patrols to his credit. He served on the USS Sailfish SS-192 and USS
Archerfish SS-311. Jim qualified on the Sailfish in 1942. His rate was
MM2(SS). Jim was very active in the WWII Submarine Veterans (Runner Chapter)
and held several posts in that organization. He joined USSVI in 1968. He
is survived by his wife, Dorothy and four children: Patricia, Roselle Ventere,
James Jr. and Anne O'Neil.

Shipmate Robert M. Coward, life member
1921 (age 78) of 217 Glenhaven Dr, Charlotte, NC received his final orders
from the Supreme Commander on June 11, 1999. He is survived by his wife
Ruby. Robert served aboard the USS Sculpin ss-191 and USS Perch ss-313
and qualified submarines 1943.

Shipmate Edward L. Dunphy,,, life member
# 2153 of 1635 Rich Avenue, Norfolk, VA was called to his final patrol
on April 25, 1999lm He is survived by his wife Phyllis of 44 years, one
son Ronald, two daughters, Ann Dale Powell and Grace Veronica Brown, four
grandchildren, two great grandchildren, one brother Joseph and five sisters,-
Helen Frasco, Delores Karbach, Elizabeth Aman, Lorraine Miller and Mary
Tamagno. Edward served aboard the USS Corsair, USS Pomfret, USS Polleck,
USS Triton and retired as a Master Chief. He also was a member of the United
States Submarine Veterans, Knights of Columbus Council 3548, Fleet Reserve
Branch #40 and the Ocean View Democratic Club.

Shipmate James H. Everette of 694 Hilldale
Avenue, Haverhill, MA received his Final Orders from the supreme Commander
on Januray 20, 1999. Jim was life member #1719 of USSVI Thresher Base and
a member of the Squalas Chapter of USSV/WWII. Jim was a plank owner of
USS Tench SS-417 earning the submarine combat insignia with two gold stars
and the Asiatic Pacific medal with three gold stars. Jim is survived by
his wife Helen of 53 years, daughters Donna Traficante, Karen A. Everette
and Susan E. Dunbar and one son John Everette as well as many grandchildren
and nephews and neices. Jim will be sorely missed by his many friends and
relatives.

of 5244 W Cornelia Ave. Chicago, Il received his final orders from the
Supreme Commander on January 28,1999. Red was a member of both SubVetsWWII
and USSVI. Red is survived by his loving wife Dorothy. He served aboard
the USS Segundo during WWII , "43-''44.

LCDR LeRoy E. Hoppe, USN (Ret) received
his final orders from the Supreme Commander on 6 April 1999. LeRoy wa an
honorary Admiral of the Holland Club and was proud of his service on a
pig boat. At almost 95 years of age he seemed to have grown tired of this
world. When his second wife Katie, passed away 3 years ago seemed to be
the beginning of the end for him.

Shipmate Edwin "John" Johnston
(73) of 59 Mitchell Street, Groton, Ct received his final orders from the
supreme Commander on Nov. 21, 1999. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1943
until his retirement and was a veteran of WWII and the Korean war. He served
with the underwater demolition team and aboard the USS Brownson, USS Spikefish,
USS Treadfin, USS Fulton, USS tusk and USS Grouper. John was a life member
of Groton Lodge of Elks, and a member of the Fleet Reserve in Groton, the
Retired Armed Forces Association of New London, the Sacred Heart Church
and an active volunteer with the Pioneer Hose Co in Groton. John is survived
by three daughters, Donna Miller, Michigan, Deborah Johnson and Betty Roakes
both of South Carolina, one brother John, one sister Adelaide Duffy, five
grandchildren, two great grandchildren and a long time companion. Donations
in his memory may be made to the Community Cancer Center, Lawrence &
Memorial Hospital in New London.

Shipmate Jay Kernan TM2(SS) of 8 Davis
Avenue, Harrison, New Jersey was called to his Eternal reward on February
7, 1999. Jay served aboard the USS POLK SSBN-645 in 1967-1970. He was a
plank ownerr of N J Base, past Base Commander and past NJ State Commander.
Jay is survived by his wife Marianne. He had made a patrol or two with
our National Secretary Tom Conlon. He and Tom married twin sisters in 1971
and their two sons were born two months apart. Jay will be sorely missed
by his shipmates and his many friends.

Shipmate Frank J. Keser of 2160 Jerry
Ln, Lodi, CA was called to his Eternal reward on August 27, 1999. Frank
is survived by his wife Louise, daughters Cheryl Peterson, Susanne Keser,
Christine Phelps, Father Frank Keser and brothers Edward and Raymond. Frank
was a life member # 1932 of USSVI and a member of Mare Island Base. He
served on the USS Catfish SS-339 as TM 3/c (SS). Frank was a true patriot.

Richard A. Landahl, born: 12/26/46
died: 7/19/99 (Age 52) 19 So. William St., E. Patchogue, N.Y. 11772. Richard
was suffering from lung cancer and subsequently died of heart failure.
He is survived by his wife Judy and two sons, Mark, from Frederick, Md.
and Peter, of Bermuda. Richard qualified on the USS Quilback SS-424 in
1967. His rate was MM2(SS). Following his military career he joined the
Suffolk County Sheriff Dept. He retired from the Dept. in Aug. 1997. He
joined SubVets in March 1994.

Shipmate Eugene R. McNamee, National
life member #581 of 1559 E Lexington Ave, El Cajon, CA received his final
orders from the Supreme Commander on 8 April 1999 after a long battle with
cancer. Eugene is survived by his wife Joanne and children. He started
his naval carrer in a dive bomber, later volunteering to submarines, qualifying
aboard USS Sea Robin (SS407) in 1945. He also served aboard USS Ronquil
SS-396 and USS Sculpin SS-590. He was a nuclear power recruiter in the
60's and 70's. As well as being a sub Vet life member he also was a Holland
club member and a life member of San Diego Base. At one time he was post
Commander of VFW Post 3787 in San Diego.

Shipmate John B. "Red" Nagle
(age 70) of 416 Mill Street, Reedsville, WI was called to his eternal reward
on June 21, 1999 after a brief illness. He is survived by his wife Cecelia
and one daughter Loretta Hardie and three grandchildren. John was a life
member of both USSVWWII AND USSVI, a member of VFW Post 1928 Concord, CA,
Veterans of Underage Military Service and a member of the Fleet Reserve.

Shipmate John T. Pace (age 66) of 21012
107th Street, Bristol, WI received his final orders from the Supreme Commander
on February 2, 1999. He is survived by his wife Geraldine and three sons,
Kelley, Allison and Matthew. Johns ashes were buried at sea and his ashes
were accompanied by his son Matthew. John was COB aboard the USS ETHAN
ALLEN from 1963 until 1968 and he retired in 1972 as Chief Engineman.

his Final Orders from the Supreme Commander on October 15, 1999. He is
survived by his wife Dorothy Pickens, c/o Dorothy Trail, RR2 Box 3820,
Winthrop, Maine and one son Jeff, one daughter Denise and several grandchildren.
Lu retired from the Navy in 1999 and had served aboard the USS Cubera and
the USS Pickerel and was Chief of the boat on the USS Trumpetfish.

Shipmate Roland J. Schirch, a member
of SUBVETS Groton Base, from Holyoke MA passed away on 15 July, 1999. Schirch
was a SUBVET WWII and was a past president of the Baystate West Chapter
SUBVETS WWII, and also a member of the prestigious HOLLAND CLUB. Shipmate
Schirch served onboard USS ARGONAUT SS475, qualifying in Submarines in
1945. Roland Schirch saw action off the coasts of China, Taiwan, Korea
and Japan. He was awarded the Submarine Combat Medal and the Chinese order
of Military Merit. When he left the Navy he was a Seaman 1/C. Gulls veer

Larry is survived by his wife Glenna, Sister Jane, Brothers Jack, Jim,.
and Douglas. Larry qualified on USS Trout SS-566 in 1959. He also served
on USS Plunger SSN-595, USS Permit SSN-594, USS Kamehameha SSN-642 and
USS H L Stimson SSBN-655. He will be sorely missed.

Andrew J. Schultheis, born: 11/10/18
died: 7/30/99 (Age 81) 79 Westwood Dr., Brentwood, N.Y. 11717 - Andrew
died from Lukemia. He is survived by his wife Florence and two sons. Andy
retired from the Navy in 1967 as a EMC(SS). He was a veteran of WWII. In
the latter part of his Naval career he transferred to submarine duty. He
was assigned to the USS Cavalla SS-244 and qualified in 1961. For 17 years
after his retirement he made his living as a clammer on the Great South
Bay. He joined SubVets in 1995.
