Tribute to Glenn Hill Being one of many who were privileged to have known Shipmate Hill I always considered it an honor to be associated with a person of his stature To be counted amongst his legion of friends and admirers gave one a feeling of self-pride. Glenn was a very special person: Submarine Veteran, enlisted sailor, officer and a gentleman; educator, community leader and outstanding family man. My relationship with Commander Hill was started through meeting with him at various USSV functions. Glenn was Holland Club Commander at the time I was inducted into the Holland Club fellowship. Under Glenn’s leadership the Holland Club which had been in a stagnate growth period was rejuvenated, membership was increased from approximately 135 to the 700 member range. Glenn by his leadership and determination reestablished the honor and prestige that was the original intent of the Holland Club founders. One of the original ideas promoted by Glenn was the Holland Club Breakfast, which he initiated at the Hagerstown Convention. At Commander Glenn’s recommendation I was elected HC Vice Commander at this meeting. A closer relationship with Glenn came about when I had the opportunity to travel with him to the USSV convention in Reno Nevada. M y wife and I cherish the memory of this trip . He confided in me on his hopes and plans for the Holland Club future. Due to ill health Glenn was unable to attend the Convention in Atlantic City. At this time Commander Glenn requested to be relived of his duties as HC Commander. With Glenn’s endorsement and recommendation I was elected to be his relief. I sincerely hope that I am capable of filling the position of such a prestigious predecessor. If I follow the course laid out by Shipmate Glenn I should not have a problem. Fair winds and following seas, Sir. You stand relived. I have the watch. Pride Runs Deep William Britt
