Memorial Service - 7 December 2003
Conducted by Chesapeake Base, USSVI & Delmarva Chapter, SubVetsWWII
| Posting by Mike Hemming hemming@goeaston.net Twenty some hardy souls gathered in a 18 degree wind chill at the WW2 Submarine Memorial to honor those that died at Pearl Harbor and those that gave all in the war that followed. The Mk 14 is off being repaired so we stood at the marble cradle --- itself a beautiful monument --- and held a short and bittersweet service including a tolling of the boats. A sad note this year, for the first time, wives of WW2 combat veterans outnumbered their husbands. A reminder that these great men won't be with us much longer. |
