WestPac Patch Fundraiser for Holland Club

Last year Ron Martini, Lockwood Internet Base (LIB) CDR and I discussed how the Holland Club (HC) could become less financially dependent upon USSVI and other sources.

Later, Ron called and asked if I would design a patch to commemorate a rite of passage for thousands of current and former sailors, not just submariners, thus multiplying the HC revenue potential. The Rite? A WestPac. cruise.

LIB would sponsor the patch to raise funds and share the net proceeds with the HC.

Today, the patch and the sharing is a reality.

Larger than most, this strikingly attractive five inch patch is in a red, white and blue motif with a golden dragon at its center, a symbol of the long held legend that the Western Pacific was the "Domain of the Dragon." The dragon is embroidered using gold and black metallic threads that virtually shimmers and dances in the light. Space is left for the placement of stars each representing the number of WestPac patrols made.

The cost of the patch is $5.00 each or $4.35 for six or more and each star is $.50 each or $.40 for 12 or more. The percent of net for the Holland Club ranges at about 67% depending on shipping costs but the absolute dollar amount remains fixed. For every patch sold, the Holland Club will receive $1.75. Available only a short time, the project has already resulted in the Holland Club receiving a check for $112. For early purchases, Ron is donating the packaging and including a USSVI pen while LIB is paying the postage.

Base Storekeepers can get a jump start on this worthwhile win-win project by polling their members to determine how many patches are wanted.

Orders can then be placed in bulk by contacting USSVI Base Commander Ron Martini:
