BACKGROUND

RE: Copies of emails below

Our few exchanges resulted in a dry hole and nothing much ever came of the inquiry about a grave marker. Neither Lee nor I had any answers. A couple of BBS postings yielded none either.

Recently while looking for something else (isn't that always the case?) I came in kind of sideways to a website and BINGO! there was the SUBVET WWII GRAVE MARKER.

The image you see above is what I downloaded from the website.

Here are the links to that site

Lee,

I recently had an e-mail from the family of a WWII SubVet asking about availability of a WWII Submarine plaque suitable for mounting on their deceased father's gravestone.

I pointed them to the usual websites and boards of SubVets WWII.

My question is -- do you have any additional ideas of current sources of such a WWII SubVet plaque? I still have their e-mail address and could pass any info to them.

Also, does USSVI have any such source for a Submarine Service cast metal plaque to mount on a grave marker? If we do then maybe we could give it a higher visibility with a writeup or whatever.

If not, perhaps you could bring it up to the troops as a USSVI project to have something cast and made available. Maybe even go so far as make it a part of USSVI benefits that when we pass from this mortal coil USSVI provides such a marker if the family wants it.

Sid

HERE IS A COPY OF  THE EMAIL WHICH I HAD RECEIVED

Mr. Harrison:

My father, a WWII Submarine Veteran, passed away last year and we are trying to find where we can buy a WWII Submarine Veteran Plaque, round/brass, to be placed on our Dad's grave.

Any information you have would be appreciated.

Sincerely,

Sid,

In reply to your inquiry I have found the following information although it is old it would not hurt to contact them if desired.

    ATTENTION SUBVETS

Thames River Chapter - USSVWWII is sponsoring a sale of grave markers which can be placed on headstone as shown or inserted on a rod in the ground. Markers are $25.00, rods $2.00, shipping and handling $4.50. Make checks payable to SubVets of WWII and mail to

Leonard A. Behlke 156 Lewis Road Preston, CT. 063365

The above was printed in June 1994 Polaris and ran for quite some time. I do not know if they still have them or not but it might be worth while to check. If you like I'll make a copy of the picture and snail mail it to you. Let me know. I hope that this might be of some help to you and the inquiring family.

Lee
