Shipmates: Psalm 95:1-3 reads: Come let us sing for joy to the Lord; let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation. Let us come before him with Thanksgiving and extol Him with music and song. For the Lord is the great God, the great King above all gods. Phillipians 4:6 reads: Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with Thanksgiving, present your request to God.
Thanksgiving marks for most of us the beginning of the Holiday season. Hannuka and Christmas are just around the corner, followed by a brand new year. I think it is amazing that our Holiday season begins with Thanksgiving, because it allows us to reflect on our past blessing and look forward to our future blessings as well. So what have we to be thankful for? Well my family and I just returned from a Thanksgiving service where we worship and serve and we were asked to complete the following: I am thankful for_____________________________. Some of the answers included: Life, Happiness, Forgiveness, My Wife, That people can't hear how bad I sound when I sing, grace, mercy, freedom, being able to come home from college, etc. While I am quite sure that you can come up with some things of your own, I might suggest that we as the USSVI continue to express thanks for the men who are now serving in the submarine force, especially those who will not be home to share a Thanksgiving meal with their families. Thanks to those who have served the submarine force in the past, those who paved the way for us to follow in their footsteps. Thanks to those who paid the ultimate price as submariners and remain on Eternal Patrol. Since my appointment as the National Chaplain, I have seen the obituaries of over 70 of our shipmates. There may be more, but this is all I have right now. And so as tribute to those shipmates who have passed, I ask that you toll a bell and give thanks to God above for their service and their sacrifice:
There are others whose names I have not mentioned because, I have not yet processed the enormous number of e-mails that we receive weekly. I therefore ask that as you sit down for your Thanksgiving meal, pause to give thanks with a grateful heart for our shipmates now on eternal patrol. From my family to yours: May God bless you and keep you, may he make his face shine upon you, and give you peace on this Thanksgiving day. And for those who are Redskins fans, may they win their football game. Oohga, Oohga, Dive, Dive, Dr. Arthur and Mrs. Carole A. Glover
