From: Patrick Householder - Nat'l Secretary Date: 02 April 2004 Subject: ONLINE MEMBER DATA UPDATE TOOL Thanks to the hard work of Don Gentry (our new volunteer Chief Technology Officer), USSVI now has a online Member Data Update tool available for your use. (Link shown below) VERY IMPORTANT: How does it work? If the info on record is correct, the member is thanked and nothing further happens. If it is not correct, the member is offered a chance to correct the data. When he is finished, a request for correction is automatically emailed to the National Office and the Database is updated there, plus a verification copy flows back to the subvet requestor's email address. How do we know the entered information is valid? When logging on, the member enters his email address and his qual boat hull number. If they match, his record is displayed. Also, since a verification copy returns to the logged in email address, the member knows if he sent it in or not. This system is completely separate and apart from our primary database, by the way, so there is no possibility of screwing up our primary database system. Because they ARE separate, while the office Database will be quickly updated, the online version will only be updated monthly, If a member makes a change based on the online record and then checks back online in a few days, he will not see his correction online, even though it has been made in the national office records. (At this time the online data is up to date as of March 25, 2004. The next online database update will be mid April after the non renewing 'dinks' are removed.) Here is the link: http://www.submarinesailor.com/ussvi/email/login.asp If for some reason you CANNOT access the link or your data entry is not accepted, email a query directly to the National Office at USSVI@telebyte.net Questions, comments or concerns?
