USSVI Reports & Notices
From:   Patrick Householder - Nat'l Secretary
Date:   26 April 2004
Subject:   USSVI-SUBVETSWWII LIAISON COMMITTEE

The US Submarine Veterans of WWII group has appointed a USSVI liaison representative for intergroup coordination purposes. This representative has requested that USSVI set up a joint USSVI-SVWWII Coordinating Committee with a goal of working together for better coordination and communications between the two groups. The USSVI Board considered and approved this request at the Kansas City Midterm Board meeting.

NC John Peters designated the following USSVI members to serve on this ad hoc committee. All of the USSVI committee members are also Associate members of SVWWII and as such are already generally familiar with the operations and procedures within SVWWII.

USSVI-SVWWII LIAISON COMMITTEE MEMBERS:

    JOHN PETERS, CHAIR
    JIM FOOTE, NJVC
    TOM CONLON, NSVC
    DAVE HARNISH, WRD
    ART RANDALL, CRD

This information will be communicated back to the SVWWII Liaison for action on their side. The goal (from the USSVI side) is to encourage and facilitate future joint conventions and to encourage more 'blending' of USSVI and SVWWII chapters in local operation while maintaining the separate organizational and administrative integrity of each group.

We consider the SVWWII group a unique entity comprised of WWII submariners that should maintain a separate existence so long as their members are able to maintain the organization, i.e. a "last man standing" group, but we want to encourage and enhance the local inter-chapter/base cooperation for the benefit of members of both organizations. In fact, a number of our Bases and their Chapters have sucessfully combined local operations already. In Arizona, "Pigboaters" and "Perch Base" are the most recent examples of this desirable trend.
