Posting Date: 27 October, 2005 From: John Dudas VA Awards $463,000 Grant for Minnesota Veterans Home VA Awards $463,000 Grant for Minnesota Veterans Home The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) awarded a grant of $463,000 last week to the state of Minnesota for renovations to the state veterans home in Minneapolis. The $463,000 grant will pay up to 65 percent of the cost of replacing sewer pipes in Building 17 at the veterans home. Overall cost of the project is estimated at $712,000. In addition to the Minneapolis facility, Minnesota operates state veterans homes in five other locations. The homes are open to Minnesota residents who were honorably discharged from the military after at least 181 days on active duty. Additional information about the state veterans homes is available on the Internet at www.mvh.state.mn.us In fiscal year 2004, VA spent more than $1 billion in Minnesota to serve about 430,000 veterans who live in the state. VA operates major medical centers in Minneapolis and St. Cloud, with clinics and Vet Centers in several locations. |
