National Commander John Peters is asking you to appoint a Base Charitable Foundation (CF) POC Representative. This person should be one who is interested in and supportive of the Foundation's work and who will keep the base membership updated about it's activities and programs. Your participation is not mandatory but I certainly encourage you to do so. Part of the CF POC duties will be to promote participation of base members in the CF programs, to solicit ideas and comments for the betterment of the CF, aid in the application process for CF educational scholarships if the base does not have a designated scholarship committee co-coordinator and make CF news items available to the base newsletter editor as they become available for publication. DEATH OF ARTHUR GRANDINETTI GM3 QUEENFISH SS-393 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Submitted by: Greg Grandinetti ggrandinetti@wi.rr.com =================================================================== Fri, 24 Jan 2003 Just dropping a line to inform you that my grandfather Arthur Grandinetti died suddenly on December 24,2002 of heart ailments. He was 78 years old and talked of his exploits on the Queenfish quite often. I was wondering if you could put his name in the next issue of Polaris which I inherited all his past issues. Please if possible, I would like a copy of the issue that his name and memoriam would be placed. If you need any other information, please let me know. My address is: Greg Grandinetti 509 S. Keeney Ave. Port Washington, WI 53074 Sincerely, Greg Grandinetti =================================================================== ITEM-06 .... ANNOUNCING PAYPAL FOR USSVCF FUNDS DONATIONS ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Submitted by: Art Randall ArtRandall@aol.com =================================================================== Shipmates: Announcing PayPal for USSV Charitable Foundation Funds Donations We have completed everything we needed to do, as an organization, to begin receiving donations to our Charitable Foundation Funds, through PayPal. The document (links shown below) discusses what PayPal is, how it works and how it can be conveniently used for donating to our CF Funds (I used it yesterday to send $10 to the Memorial Fund and $10 to the Scholarship fund and it received shortly thereafter by USSV. It works!). http://www.ussvcf.org/ppd-how.htm It states that in order to use PayPal one has to be registered and then defines what is required to register with PayPal, delineating the easy steps, once the donor has registered, to make his donation to PayPal. Registration takes less that two minutes and making a donation takes, once registered, less than a minute. Nothing has ever been easier for any donor having the ability to access the Internet Please forward this message to your Base Commanders and anyone else you feel may be interested, including those who are not USSVI affiliated but may be interested in donating to our five Funds: GENERAL, SCHOLARSHIP, BROTHERHOOD, LIBRARY and MEMORIAL All detailed on http://www.ussvcf.org There is no cost to register with PayPal or maintain it. Having registered, the registrant is under no obligation in any way to ever use PayPal for anything. However, once registered the registrant may use it to make payments to any of the thousands of vendors and organizations that accept PayPal payment, and the list is growing every day! We have made it easy for our members to support our funds. Please get the word out about this new medium of payment. Let's get the word out as "The Shot Heard Round the World." SCHOLARSHIP PAGES REARRANGED - NOTE NEW LINKS ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Submitted by: Sid Harrison webmaster@ussvi.org =================================================================== On the USSVI main page: http://www.ussvi.org --- now when you click the STAR that is labeled "SCHOLARSHIP Guide & Notices" you will go here http://www.ussvcf.org/scolchr1.htm It is titled: CURRENT YEAR SCHOLARSHIP GUIDE & NOTICES This is NOT INTENDED to be a straight shot into the entire USSV-Charitable Foundation Scholarship Fund. IT IS INTENDED to be a quick-link from the Main (top) page of the USSVI website into a central repository for all on-line info promulgated by the CHAIRMAN OF THE USSVI SCHOLARSHIP COMMITTEE. This is where APPLICANTS and their SPONSORS can, in one click, go to the single location for the USSVI Scholarship Chairman's guideline for the USSVI current year scholarship program. Also found on that page are links to the SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION FORMS plus links to all additional memos (notices) that the Chairman might see fit to issue during the course of the year pertaining to the current year scholarship program; its applications, procedures, deadlines etcetera. ------------------------------------------ SpecialSend Item from 26 January 2003 ------------------------------------------ =================================================================== ITEM-10 .... SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATIONS DATES CLARIFICATION ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Submitted by: Paul Wm. Orstad porstad@ebmail.gdeb.com =================================================================== There is some confusion concerning the last call for scholarship applications. 15 March 2003 is last call for applications. 15 April 2003 is the due date for the scholarship application to the Scholarship Chmn. If you are going to have a problem with either date please contact the Scholarship Chairman. I can work one on one with no problem if you contact me between now and the due dates. We are here to help you get reviewed for a scholarship. So far I have returned the first two applications because the applicant did not read the cover letter and hint sheet they received. When we ask for a signature we want a signature. Tax returns unsigned means it is not correct. I checked with colleges in my area to make sure this was a correct statement for college entrance applications and all of them required signed tax forms. Last hint DO NOT SEND Scholarship Application by overnight delivery that is too COSTLY. USE regular mail or shipping. Use good judgement and planning in sending me the applications. Thank you The Scholarship Committee.
