ITEM-01 .... LAST TRANSMISSION --- I STAND RELIEVED
===================================================================
SUBMITTED BY:
SID HARRISON cny@sid-ss.net
===================================================================
Today I snail-mailed a CD to your new webmaster, Greg Stitz. The CD
has all the website folders and files for USSVI and USSVCF.
He is in the process of setting up his FTP (File Transfer Protocol)
in order to gain access to the on-line sites. (stuff like new user
name and password).

So from here on - I will NOT (repeat NOT) be making any further
tweaks to the two websites. I AM DONE.

DO NOT send me anymore USSVI stuff to post. All USSVI material I
receive from now on will be forwarded to Greg for action.

NOTE: Y'all may want to cut him a little slack at first until he
gets some time on station. Just a thought...

Greg's contact info is:

Greg Stitz
5000 11th Street South
Arlington, VA 22204
Home - 703-931-3238
Work - 202-685-5511
e-mail: gstitz@mindspring.com

For the time being, I have changed the WEBMASTER POC LIST entry to
reflect Greg's e-mail as shown above. So until Greg gives you the
word, DO NOT use the webmaster@ussvi.org address... use his e-mail
address.
-----

It has been an interesting challenge and privilege to be your
webmaster and relay station --- but it is now time for me to
step-down and hand it off to some guys who possess technical
skills which extend way beyond my limited knuckle-draggin'
abilities.

Those skills in the hands of such qualified operators as Greg, Don
Gentry et al will allow the USSVI web services to "kick it up a
notch" thus providing you, the USSVI membership, with some much
needed (and overdue) state-of-the art improved internet services.

-----

So without further ado - I STAND RELIEVED!!!!!!!

Somebody hit the lights and smoke the flick.

Down in front!

-----

See ya on the net.

ITEM-14 .... LETTER FROM THE NATIONAL AWARDS CHAIRMAN
===================================================================
SUBMITTED BY:
ART RANDALL ArtRandall@aol.com
===================================================================
Shipmates:

The National Awards Chairmanship should not be just a once a year
deliberation to find among us our unsung heroes, give them awards
at the Annual Convention Business Meeting or Banquet waiting for
the next year's Banquet to present more. Our unsung heroes are
performing for us each and every day in a variety of ways ...
and they should remain unsung no longer as they are indeed the
foundation and mainstay of our Bases' success!

I welcome your ideas as to what we can do to recognize our members
for going above and beyond the call, on a daily, monthly and
yearly basis, who are rarely recognized for what others call,
"Just doing their job." As we all know members doing more than the
job description requires, is doing more than their job! Yet, we
often accept that excess given, as the "norm".

As of this date, I am announcing, with the unqualified endorsement
of the New Base Development Chairman George Boyle, and the USSVI
National Commander John Peters a new, everyday recognition of
members and Bases that take a proactive position in new Base
development that transcends their "territorial boundaries," and
goes to the core of our Creed, that is, " ... to provide "... a way
for all Submariners to gather for the mutual benefit and enjoyment.
Our common heritage as Submariners shall be Strengthened by
camaraderie." Base membership is at the heart of the fulfillment of
the Creed's statement of purpose.

US Submarine Convention and Boat Reunions
Saratoga Springs, New York
September 14-19, 2004

For any questions concerning the upcoming convention at Saratoga
Springs, please response to Subvets2004@prodigy.net.

Check our website at http://www.AlbanySaratogaSubVets.com for
information and maps.

So far more than 1200 people have registered for the convention, with
800-900 hotel/motel rooms reserved!

Thanks to the generosity of New York State, Saratoga County and the
City of Saratoga Springs, we have the funds to: hold the very first
Parade, honoring Submarine Force Veterans, operate; our SubVets
Trolleys; and hold a US Navy Band Concert. With the help of Groton
Base, we will have Submarine School Students carry the Lost Boat Flags
and a Submarine Base Drill Team. Two local boys raised $1600 to
purchase stands for the lost boat flags, so that the flags can be
displayed at our banquet. The stands will be donated to Groton Base.

The trip to Naval Nuclear Power Training Site is cancelled due to the
August heightened alert. Those who have signed up for this trip will
be offered a refund of credit towards another trip - your choice.

Seating at the Banquet is almost gone. Each Banquet table will carry
the name of a Lost Boat. During "Tolling of the Bells" candles will be
blown out as the Lost Boat's names are called. Each Lost Boat's name
will be on two tables. People that wish to sit at a particular Lost
Boat Table should submit the request to Banquet@NYcap.rr.com

ADVANCE SEATING FOR THE BANQUET:

If you have eight or more friends (limit 10) who wish to sit at the
same banquet table, you may reserve a table in advance. Tables seat
10. If you reserve a table with 8 names, the remaining 2 spaces will
be filled during at the convention. The names you submit must be
already registered and shown on the list of attendees. You must have 8
names to hold a table. Send a list of the names at your table, the
name you want to use to reserve the table, and state if you want to be
near (or away from) the band, stage or the bar to:
Banquet@NYcap.rr.com. If you don't request advanced seating, you can
do it at the convention starting on Tuesday.

Our Welcoming Aboard Party in the park starts at 1600 on Wednesday and
will be a spectacular patriotic event, with plenty of entertainment,
food and drink. Seats will be setup and reserved for our Subvets for
the outdoor concert. After the concert, British and American
Revolutionary reenactors will fire cannons and line the walkway to the
Canfield Casino.(the only building in the park). Submarine Sailors
will also render honors.

Inside the oldest Casino in America, music will play, the local
representatives will address you. Tables will be setup to serve
cheese and crackers, a roast beef carving station, a desert table etc.

The Submarine Film Festival on Thursday will start at 1330 and run for
at least 4 hours, in the 120 year old Music Hall on the third floor of
City Hall, one block from the Prime. There is a handicap ramp in front
leading to the elevator.

Friday afternoon's US Navy Concert starts at 1500 at the City Center
(just off our Hospitality room at the Prime Hotel). Please be in your
seats by 1645. The front 1200 seats are reserved for Subvets and
guests. The public is invited to also attend.

Registered convention members will receive: a US Submarine Veterans
gym bag; an umbrella (just incase); A refrigerator magnet replicating
the convention patch; a special aluminum bank designed by our base
depicting the submarine force and the convention; Saratoga Water; free
pass to Welcoming Party, Shuttle Trolleys, and US Navy Band Concert;
restaurant and shop discounts; a Convention Book( see attached photo).

Thursday nights dinner cruise on Lake George will be attended by
almost 300 of our members and guests.

Al and Terry Hahn won the Prime Hotel Suite raffle. We expect to have
$2500 in gifts for the prize raffle drawing at the Banquet.

It looks like we will have more than 30 submarine Vendors at the Prime
Hotel.

Religious service information will be posted in the Prime Lobby area.
We are providing transportation on Thursday afternoon for Rosh
Hashanah.

Toward the end of the two luncheons on Friday, the dividing wall will
be opened for the pinning of the new Chiefs from the Navy Nuclear
Training site.

Immediately after the USSVI and Subvettets Annual Meetings, you should
assembly for the parade or pick your viewing spot. Parade assembly
instructions will be posted near the registration desk.

ROOMS:

There are still rooms at and near the Holiday Inn (Holiday Inn, The
Carriage House Inn, Grand Union Motel and the Hilton Garden Inn) and
near the Prime Hotel (Marriott Courtyard and Saratoga Arms Bed &
Breakfast). Grand Union motel at $97 per night are the last of the
"under $100" rooms on our SubVet Shuttle Line. The Courtyard at
Marriott, a short walk from the Prime Hotel parking lot will honor
$119 per night. Also consider the Gideon Putnam Hotel, a 4 diamond
resort that is giving the low rate of $139 per night. For a list of
all hotels and the prices check our webpage at:
