ITEM-01 .... Thanksgiving Message from the National Chaplain

THANK YOU
by
Arthur D. Glover, National Chaplain

There is a television commercial that I like and hope most of you have had the opportunity to see it. In the commercial, two women are in the fruit and vegetable section of the supermarket when one of the women touches the stomach of the other and asks, "when are you due?"

The woman replies in an upset tone "I'm not pregnant". Feeling the embarrassed, the first women says "Thank You?" The offended woman says, "What did you say?" The first woman replies "Thank You?"

Thank You. These two words can mean a lot to a person. Scripture tells us that we are to be thankful in every situation whether good or bad. As Thanksgiving Day approaches I am reminded that we have a lot to be thankful for good and bad. And isn't it ironic that we also celebrate Veteran's Day in the same month we celebrate Thanksgiving.

Here is my Thank You list:

Thank You to all the Base Commander's of the USSVI. The work that you are doing to support our organization at the grass roots level is wonderful. Your willing to step up and lead makes USSVI a class organization.

Thank You to our National Elected and Appointed Leadership. I truly appreciate your hard work and devotion, especially Greg for posting this message.

Thank You Albany-Saratoga Base for a wonderful convention. God really heard up there and I got to see my brother whom I had not seen since 1986.

But most of all Thank You to the membership for serving our nation as submariners with pride and professionalism. Some of us were depth charged, some of us not. However, in each case we had to sacrifice by being away from out families even on Thanksgiving Day.

So, as you celebrate around your Thanksgiving Tables, don't forget to say a prayer for all of us. Remember our departed shipmates on eternal patrol those who died in war and those who died in peace.

God Bless you all and may peace reign in your hearts.

Art Glover,
USSVI
National Chaplain

ITEM-02 .... Pelican Harbor's "Clean Sweep" in November
===================================================================
SUBMITTED BY:
William 'Bill' Vasquez, Pelican Harbor Base CDR, wvasquez@earthlink.net
===================================================================
For the second year running, Pelican Harbor Base has made a "Clean Sweep" during the month of November.

Briefly, we did the following:

1. Participated in the Fort Lauderdale Veteran's Day Parade.
2. Participated in the Reception for the Royal British Legion Korean War Veterans
3. Participated with the Allied Veterans in the activities at the American Legion Post #222
4. Coordinated with the WWII SubVets to make plans for the Christmas holidays
5. Contributed funds to the Opa-Locka (Miami) Sea Cadets Unit
6. Held our second annual event at the Fin Project Submarine Memorial
7. Recognized new inductees into the Holland Club
8. Doubled the size of the Pelican Harbor library and expanded our Historian File
9. Auctioned submarine items on eBay to bring money into our Base Fund
10. Developed a rudimentary Web Page for our Pelican Harbor Base

Pelican Harbor Base (Miami/Fort Lauderdale) is a small (32 members) but feisty base. We've got a great bunch of guys - and we're working hard to be the best that we can be.

Not bad, huh?

ITEM-03 .... Support YOUR USSVCF via PAYPAL
===================================================================
SUBMITTED BY:

===================================================================
POC NOTE: PLEASE DISTRIBUTE TO ALL YOUR BASE MEMBERS AND ASK YOUR NEWSLETTER EDITOR TO INCLUDE IN YOUR NEXT BASE NEWSLETTER.

Another word about YOUR national Submarine Veterans Charitable Foundation (USSVCF):

The USSVCF is able to take donations electronically, via Paypal, one of (if not THE) most widely used Internet payment sources available. If you have an account, you already know they are totally secure. (As a personal note, I conduct 10 or more transactions using Paypal each month. I have been using it for several years and have never had a problem.)

You can either donate to the General Fund, or you can "target" your donation to a specific fund, such as the Scholarship Fund, the Memorial Fund, the Brotherhood Fund, or the Library Fund.

So, by either check or Paypal, it's EASY to support the USSVCF!

Remember, our national goal is to raise $ 10.00 per member per year.

This is less than 20 cents per week per member.

Because USSVCF is a IRS 501(c)(3) foundation, donations are tax deductible to the full extent of the law and bequests via your will are also appreciated. (Although we hope it will be a very long time before it comes to pass.)

The webpage for donating to the General Fund is:
http://www.ussvcf.org/general.htm
The link is at the bottom of the page.
There is also a VERY helpful guide for setting up a Paypal Account, written by Art Randall

The home page of the USSVCF, which has links for each of the specific funds is:
http://www.ussvcf.org/

As always, if you have any questions about the website or how it works, please feel free to e-mail me.

Just a few hints when you are submitting items for the POC Broadcasts and/or the Website:

Please provide the following in the BODY of the e-mail:
Your Name
Your Title
Your E-Mail Address

This saves me from having to either e-mail you back, asking for the info, or spending time doing text searches for you e-mail address rather than actually doing the updating you want done.

If you know the file name or URL of the page you want updated, please provide it. Again, I can always look it up, but I'd rather spend my time doing the work.
