Item 02 .... Participation Deadline for USSVI Book Extended
=================================================================
Submitted by:
Doc McCance, USSVI National Historian
=================================================================
Greetings, Shipmates:
As you know, USSVI is working with Turner Publishing Company to publish an all new History & Pictorial Book on USSVI. Response has been great, and hundreds of you have already sent in your materials for inclusion, but we know that many of you need more time to compile your information. Therefore, the publisher has extended the response deadline to 1 June. Don't miss this opportunity to be a part of and own a copy of our history. It will be a great keepsake to hand down to your children and grandchildren.

In addition to a detailed history of the first 40 years of USSVI, this commemorative “coffee-table” book will include stories, photographs and personal biographies from you…our members! Biographies are brief vignettes (approx. 150 words) detailing individual military individual histories, with “then and now” photographs. Your help is needed to tell the complete story of submarine veterans…our book will be incomplete without your contributions! We also encourage family members and associate members of the deceased to sponsor biographies honoring our fallen comrades.

The USSVI Commemorative History Book will be a large, 9 x 12 -inch “coffee-table” book with hundreds of pages, bound in a sturdy cover sporting the emblem of the USSVI in gold––the perfect keepsake for all USSVI shipmates and family members––sure to be handed-down from generation to generation. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to record your thumbprint in U.S. Navy History! We also encourage family members and associate members of the deceased to sponsor biographies honoring our fallen comrades.

The USSVI Commemorative Book Will Include:
Detailed history USSVI from 1964 thru today, including USSVI development by year, past officers & appointees, charitable foundations, conventions, accomplishments, and more
Cold War Sea stories as told by USSVI members
Hundreds of rare, historic photographs, including group and action shots, maps, patches, memorabilia, and more
Biographical portraits, with "then and now" photos;
9x12-inch, "coffee-table" book, bound in a striking lexatone cover.
A detailed brochure in being mailed to all current USSVI Association members, and should be delivered the second week of April 2005.

We are working with Turner Publishing Company, with offices in Nashville, Tennessee and Paducah, Kentucky. Turner is a leading publishing of military association histories, with over 500 titles on the U.S. Navy, Marines, Coast Guard, Army, Air Force and fraternal organizations. Additional information is available on similar projects by Turner at www.turnerpublishing.com.

Please note: books are available for purchase at the price of $55.95, plus shipping. The number of books printed will be based upon the number of copies reserved in advance, so you must order this limited edition publication now to be assured of receiving a copy!

All royalty proceeds will go to the USSVI treasury––this is a USSVI fund raiser.

Please join me in support of our new book.

National Historian, USSVI, Inc.

Item 04 .... Polaris Base Formed
=================================================================
Submitted by:
George St. Martin, CDR, District 7
=================================================================
Polaris base was launched on Saturday March 12, 2005 in Rapid City, South Dakota. We had 17 submarine sailors attending the first meeting.

The good news is that six of these new members had never heard of the USSVI before. I would like to thank Ron Martini, Commander of Lockwood Internet base and Pat Lyon, past Commander Minneapolis/St. Paul base for helping launch the new base. Ron Martini donated books and DVDs to start the new base library. He also donated goodies for the 50/50 drawing and items for the base store.

Future base meetings are to be held at 1300 in odd months, second Saturday of the month at the VFW hall 420 E. Main St. Rapid City, SD. unless otherwise instructed.
