2005 USSVI CONVENTION
KANSAS CITY , MISSOURI
FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 2
0700 - 0900 Base Commander's Breakfast Meeting
Technical Note: You must sign up for the breakfast ($18.00 ea) when you register for the convention.

Shipmates,
Be prepared to make a difference!
This is the theme of this year's BASE COMMANDER'S BREAKFAST.
This is your Submarine Veteran's Organization and you are the designated representative of your Base, and you are the duly elected leader.

(Disregard the fact that you may have been un-opposed).

Some of the currently scheduled Agenda Items are:
1. Better Base Meetings: How to have the most fun possible without having sex!
2. Members At Large: What can be done to get them out of the Transient Barracks and back in the sea going force or something like that.
3. Changing Base Officers: What can be done to keep Bases alive and healthy. How do we bring new talent into the Officer Ranks at the Base and district level. (How do you avoid being Base Commander for life?)
4. Increasing Membership: How can you steal members from your neighboring Bases? Have you checked for new members at that large Nuclear Power Station next door that is causing the local trout to grow to six feet?
5. Democracy in a Sub Vets meeting: What does it take to run (read that lead) an all volunteer, dues paying (or not), Submarine mentality, Don't have to come to meetings, Don't have to care, group of Dolphin wearing Homo Sapiens?
6. USSVI Charitable Foundation: To give or not to give? Now that is a stupid question. Can giving be painless? Is giving really better than receiving? Or do we receive because we give?

Scheduled Speakers: Absolutely none, however I have arm twisted Fred Borgmann to show up and answer your questions about insider trading. For instance; Is Harry Potter really running things or is it only our fervent wish?

If you do not ask questions then I will ask Shipmate John Peters PNC to read the first six chapters from his new book, Big John's Favorite Hawaiian Poi Recipes.

Special Appearances: I am trying to run down Snorkel Patty, Miss Beverly, Big Rusty, Norfolk Nelly, Rota Ruby, and Holy Loch Lucy for a fashion show, but if that does not come off then we will have C.J. tell his favorite Sea Story, twice.

I need your input prior to the convention; the USS RUNAMUCK BS-BS has been struck from the roles. We are launching the USSVI LET'SGETITDONEWITHFUN SS-OKOK and I want to know what you think needs attention and what solutions you think will make it happen. The reason for this breakfast is more than just getting through the sticky buns, it is to take a message to the USSVI Board of Directors; all we need now is the message. Base Commanders who do not make the breakfast will be assigned to Lifetime mess cooking and head cleaning details. I absolutely guarantee that you will hear at least one sea story or funny news that you have never heard before, even if I have to bribe you to lie about it. If you do not enjoy the breakfast or have the best time that you will have at any meeting in KC, then you were obviously not at the BASE COMMANDER'S BREAKFAST and you will be required to go through puberty one more time (without the blue pills). Puberty is defined as that time in life when you want to do it more than anything else you can think of, but nobody else wants to or is willing to do it with you.

Post your ideas on the CO-BBS and let's get some pre-breakfast discussion going. Who knows, with a little luck we may even be able to get Ron, Gil, and Gumba to add a wee bit to the discussion.

Respectfully,
Michael T Michael Bircumshaw
Chairman BCG

A reporter from Germany, Nina Behlendorf, is looking for help in contacting former U.S. servicemen from WWII who will be traveling to Germany. If you can provide any assistance, please contact her directly. See her e-mail below for more.

------------------------

Dear Mr. Craig,
I am working for ZDF.reporter, a German documentary that can best be compared to BBC.reporters. By now I am working on a long documentary with the title "60 years after WW II". Therefore I try to find some US-veterans travelling to Germany within the next few months, visiting historic sights, meeting other veterans there. It is our aim to accompany a group of veterans in order to show how well veterans of different nations get along with each other but also to show the emotions of US-veterans visiting sights in Germany.

Could you perhaps be so kind and support my request? Perhaps you know any US-veterans travelling to Germany and could help us getting in contact with us? ZDF.reporter is a weekly magazine, seen by about 5 million viewers each Wednesday. Topics of ZDF.reporter are "heroes like you and me" but also topics that are politically or economically of importance. If you want to take a look at our website - this is reporter.zdf.de (without www). Please feel free to call or email when there are questions left!

Thanks a lot for your support in advance,
best wishes from Germany
Nina Behlendorf
