Item 03 .... USSVI History Book Status Report
=================================================================
Submitted by W.T. "Doc" McCance, USSVI National Historian
=================================================================
The USSVI History Book is in process. The type setting will be completed by the end of this week. The editor will prep the book for the book designers. When this is finished a draft copy will be reviewed by me. If I have comments, they will be discussed with the editor.

The book should by out in late May or early June 2006.

The fact is that it has taken longer than expected to gather all the material for the book.

Item 04 .... Years of Membership Program Update
=================================================================
Submitted by Art Randall
=================================================================
Base Commanders and those interested in showing their years of USSVI Membership.

With the new Year upon us, many of our members will be adding another Year to their years of loyal USSVI membership!

The "Years of USSVI Membership" Pin Patch Program is not only still in effect, there have been some very positive changes.

Briefly, any member or Base that purchases a 20 year pin will receive at no charge a gold bordered Certificate of Achievement to be presented to the member. Any member that reaches 40 years of membership will receive a 40-year pin and a Certificate of Achievement at no cost!

Of course, if you wish to recognize any member's years of USSVI Membership you may choose a pin marked with any of the plateau years 1, 5, 15, 20, 25, 40

The cost for any of the above plateau pins is $2.50. Of course for those that would like a Patch and a Pin, the patch can be purchased separately to put one or more pins on it as their years of membership progresses.

If you want to bring your members into this program, please order the pins/patches from National Storekeeper Huey Hahn at (Subhuey@aol.com), and tell him that you want a no cost Achievement Certificate to be presented with your 20 year members' pin(s) ordered, and/or a pin and certificate for your 40 year members at no cost for the pin or certificate!

Make sure you give Huey the year the member to be feted joined USSVI, his first, middle and last name and Base name, and a certificate(s) will be prepared and mailed to you postage included.

Changes to the program for 2006:

1. The cost embroidered cloth patch is $2.50 when bought separately. When bought with a pin the package price is $4.00.

2. If you buy any pin at the standard price of $2.50 per pin and would like to also make a presentation of an Achievement Certificate at the same time to your member(s), regardless of the number of Years of Membership, the cost is $1.00 for the certificate including postage.

It's just another way to show your appreciation of the support these members have given to the organization throughout their years of service to your Base and USSVI.. Providing a member a pin for his years of membership costs just $2.50. Value? Priceless!

In case you don't remember what the elegant casting of the pin looks like, It is gold bordered, with the US Submarine Veterans name embossed in the upper arch, silver encrusted dolphins above the years of membership, all resting upon a Navy Blue Enameled Sea with the number of Years clearly marked in gold, below which the embossed words, in the lower arch, "YEAR MEMBER"

Enlarged to show the exquisite detail is a JPEG of the "Years of USSVI Membership Pin is attached. If you would like to also see the patch and or the Certificate, please, e-mail me with your request and I will e-mail it to you.

An example 10-year pin can be seen at:
http://www.ussvi.org/stornatl/06-002.jpg

Now you can present your newly achieved 15 year or any year member with a membership milestone Award.... the pin and a Certificate for just $3.50! Good recognition for your member, your Base, membership morale, District, Region and USSVI. Any questions please contact me, any orders please contact Huey.

Item 05 .... Question About Base Member Status
=================================================================
Submitted by Pat Householder
=================================================================
A good question was raised by a Base Commander about ongoing Base member status.

The question:

"If a member is current with National dues (Life/Reg/Assoc) BUT they are not current with their respective base dues are they still required to be carried (as a local member) by the base?"

The answer:

Those members no longer current with your base BUT still current nationally, revert to MAL status. The National Office is unaware of their change in status unless you tell them, and they DO need to know.

Please have your base record keepers notify the national office of those members reverting to MAL status due to non payment of local dues.
