Shipmate(s);

This letter is to inform you of my decision to request relief of my duties as Holland Club Commander.

In order to properly alert all hands and facilitate in the selection of my replacement, I will be sending notice to all base commanders requesting they notify all members of the Holland Club of my decision and to allow the opportunity to any Holland Club member to volunteer to be considered for nomination.

I will continue to execute the duties of my office until closing of the Annual Holland Club meeting 9 September 2006 to be conducted at the Holland Club Breakfast in Little Rock Arkansas. At which time I will conduct nomination and election for Holland Club Commander.

In order to insure an orderly change over of responsibilities and duties of the office and the transfer of Holland Club paraphernalia and materials to my relief and complete the transition I will be available to my relief until such time as he is fully satisfied.

It has been a distinct pleasure and a great honor serving the members of the Holland Club.

Pride Runs Deep

Item 04 .... Submarine Force Pacific Names Sailors of the Year
=================================================================
Submitted by Pat Householder

SAN DIEGO, CA--Sonar Technician (Submarine) 1st Class Charles Abrams Jr. and Cryptologic Technician (Communications) 1st Class Christopher Texada have earned the titles of Commander, Submarine Force U.S. Pacific Fleet (COMSUBPAC) 2005 Sea and Shore Sailor of the Year respectively. Rear Adm. Jeffrey Cassias presented the awards to the Sailors and their wives during an awards luncheon at Naval Base Point Loma.

In addition to Cassias, special guests like local veterans and Navy League members presented additional awards to the Sailors. Submarine veteran and former chief of the boat C. J. Glassford, presented the two Sailors with an embroidered jacket and ball cap on behalf of Submarine Veterans Inc. (USSVI).

“I retired 40 years ago,” said Glassford, “and it makes me so proud to see these young men here, representing what our submarine force is today and I’m honored to be invited to participate. Thank you for your service.”

All eight participants in the COMSUBPAC ceremony had earned Sailor of the Year titles at least twice before coming to the San Diego event. The ceremony was the culmination of a week of activities for the eight Sailors of the Year up for the COMSUBPAC titles. In addition to the competition, the Sailors and their guests also checked out some of the best San Diego has to offered. This included the historic USS Midway Museum and an evening dinner cruise around the harbor.

This is the third year the competition has been held in San Diego and this year’s COMSUBPAC Sailors of the Year joined with those from Commander, Air Forces Pacific and Commander, Surface Forces Pacific for many of the group activities.

Abrams and Texada will now go on to the next level of competition, for Pacific Fleet Sailor of the Year titles, which will take place in Hawaii this spring.

Item 05 .... New COB Patch Available
=================================================================
Submitted by Art Randall
=================================================================
A GOOD IDEA WITH FOUR SIGNIFICANT BENEFITS

A new patch has been commissioned by Ron Martini that has been designed to serve several very worthwhile and timely purposes

Its primary purpose is to recognize the "Chief of the Boat" honoring the men that held that position on a Boat while serving in the Submarine Service in the past, and/or those currently in that position today on operating submarines and for those that replace them.

All of the patches listed below including the new COB Patch are available from from Ron Martini. The COB patch may be purchased from either Ron and/or our National Storekeeper, Huey Hahn, at: Subhuey@aol.com

Thoughts on using the new COB Patch:

1. A Base can purchase this patch to present to its members that were Boat COBs.

2. They can be sent to the COBs of operating submarines as a gift by a sponsoring Base or a Base otherwise associated with an operating Boat.

3. Former COBs can purchase it for their own vests, ball caps, shoulder patches, et.al.

4. You will also help the Library Fund as $1.75 of each COB patch purchased, goes to that Fund. In so doing the new COB patch joins three other patches that also support the below listed USSVI activities and Funds.

: * WestPac Deployment - $2.00 goes to the Holland Club for each Patch
* Northern Run - $1.75 goes to the CF/Library fund for each purchased
* Shellback - $1.75 goes to the CF/Brotherhood Fund for each purchased
* Available only from Ron Martini(Visa or MC) at: rontini@bresnan.net

PATCH COSTS
Chief of the Boat $6.00
Northern Run: $6.00
Shellback: $6.00
WestPac Deployment: $5.00
