American Submariner Note from USSVI National Commander ================================================================= Submitted by Tom Conlon, National Commander ================================================================= Shipmates, I have recently received several emails related to an article in the current issue of The American Submariner. The emails related to the article entitled “President Bush Explains Social Security.” The writers of the emails believe that the article was “political” and “had no place in our national publication.” n my opinion, there was no political tone to the article, other that showing in a humorous way, how a politician can have a difficult time “thinking on his feet” in response to a question that he did not expect. The writers also believe that the article is a “slur” on President Bush. I believe differently. Any politician can misspeak in an “off the cuff” situation. President Bush happens to be a very visible politician. I subsequently contacted National Editor Mike Bircumshaw and National Senior Vice Commander Jim Foote and informed them that they have my full faith and confidence in the operation and content of our national publication. In my opinion, Mike is doing an outstanding job as our Editor. I ask all members to support Mike as I do.
