VA Data Theft Information ================================================================= The best source for information about the recent theft of Veterans' data is probably the US Government. The government has been active in expanding servers to handle the extra web traffic. The VA has information about the data theft on their home page: http://www.va.gov/ FirstGov is YOUR government's official web portal, and it also has links about the data theft on their front page: http://www.firstgov.gov/ Some of the information on FirstGov's page about the theft: http://www.firstgov.gov/veteransinfo.shtml includes: 1. What Happened and How Does this Affect Me? 2. What Should I Do? 3. What is the Department of Veterans Affairs Doing About the Situation? You can also sign up to receive the latest information about the incident via e-mail. For tips on how to guard against misuse of personal information, visit the Federal Trade Commission website at http://www.ftc.gov/. ================================================================= Item 02 .... Reminder About Protecting Personal Information ================================================================= For tips on how to guard against misuse of personal information, visit the Federal Trade Commission website at http://www.ftc.gov/. ================================================================= Item 03 .... Reminder About Credit Reports ================================================================= One way to monitor your financial accounts is to review your credit report. By law you are entitled to one free credit report from EACH of the three credit bureaus, each year. Request a free credit report from any of the three major credit bureaus - Equifax, Experian, TransUnion at www.AnnualCreditReport.com or by calling 1-877-322-8228. ================================================================= Item 04 .... Have Your Voice Heard on the Bills in Congress ================================================================= Gentlemen of the USSVI. I have a website that I use to keep informed of every bill relating to the military complete with automatic updates. I especially like the responses you can generate with an email or custom printed letter to your representatives simply by entering your Zip Code. I have used it to voice my opinion to my elected representatives many times and by entering your info one time, the remainder of your emails are automated and filled in automatically. It doesn't get any easier than this. If you want to try it go to: http://www.usdr.org/ and see for yourself how easy it is. I have received many responses from my congressmen, so I know this system works. It is my personal choice - maybe it will become yours. If you want to get involved and have your voice heard - this will surely accomplish your choices. Many Thanks, John Dudas USSVI National Chairman Veterans Affairs Committee ================================================================= Item XX ....
